2007 Bouchaine Pinot Gris, Carneros

Tasting Pinot Gris is distinctly reminiscent of stepping into an refreshing mountain stream as you stir the cool layer of leaves at your feet. Earthen and mineral, lime and citrus, green apple, and honey nectarine notes layer freshly together. Bright and refreshing, winemaker Mike Richmond has been remarking that this is wine is "pretty killer stuff," translation, "really, really good."

This Pinot Gris comes from Laird Family Estate's Bayview Vineyards in Los Carneros Sonoma. The 13-year-old Pinot Gris vines are clone 152 on 101-14 rootstock. The grapes were harvested, then lightly whole-cluster pressed to extract the juice. The Pinot Gris was fermented in neutral oak barrels and underwent malolactic fermentation to impart a richness in the texture without adding oaky flavors. (Only 208 cases produced)

We love it with a variety of food, ranging from a crisp salad to savory BBQ oysters rght off the grill.
