2008 Carneros Pinot Noir 87 POINTS, WINE SPECTATOR PLATINUM MEDAL WINNER AT 2011 SOMMELIER CHALLENGE
When you ask about the wine varietal that the Carneros appellation is most notable for, Pinot Noir invariably comes to mind.
Bouchaine Carneros Pinot Noir is a blend of Dijon, Pommard, and Swan Pinot clones from our own vineyards and very select lots from neighboring Carneros vineyards. These highly regarded neighbors include the Gee Vineyard (dry-farmed), Las Brisas Vineyards, and Casa Carneros. The season began with anxiety over the extent of the drought but that fear dissipated as the harvest unfolded. Lower crop levels coupled with late season waterings from our limited water reserves delivered grapes of uncommon flavor, intensity, and balance. Grapes were handpicked and sorted in the field during the cool morning hours in order to maintain integrity.
The wine highlights classic Carneros fruit: pomegranate, plum, and cherry fruit flavors, balanced by nuances of coffee and toffee. The multiple layers of flavors lead to a silky finish that lingers on the palate. Brightness of flavor from the acidity makes this a choice wine to pair with a variety of dishes such as pepper-crusted grilled salmon or pork tenderloin in a dried cherry relish. More and more people have discovered what longtime Pinot Noir aficionados have always agreed: that Pinot Noir is the most versatile red wine and pairs beautifully with many foods.
We invite you to try the variety of Pinot Noirs we produce at Bouchaine, including our Napa Valley- Carneros Estate Pinot Noir, Sonoma Coast Pinot Noir, Gee Vineyard Napa Valley-Carneros Pinot Noir, and our Mariafeld Carneros Pinot Noir comprised only of the Mariafeld clone. Each is flavorful, unforgettable, distintive, and brimming with its own character.
