2007 Bouchaine Pinot Meunier, Estate, Napa Valley-Carneros Pinot Meunier is the ballerina of red wine grape varieties--dainty in structure yet simply beautiful and enticing. It has been used traditionally in the making of Champagne and sparkling wines and is rarely found as its own bottling of wine, sparkling or otherwise. A cousin of the Pinot Noir grape, Pinot Meunier’s high tone fruit flavors and floral aromatics highlight the loveliness that you would find in bright, elegantly balanced Pinot Noirs. Recommended by Forbes Magazine!
2007 Bouchaine Mariafeld Pinot Noir, Estate, Napa Valley-Carneros This clone of Pinot Noir represents successful Darwinian evolution. Somewhere in time a Pinot Noir vine, presumably growing in Switzerland, developed a mutation whereby the Pinot grape cluster was much less densely packed, the berries were larger with thicker darker skin. The fortuitousness of this happy genetic development was that the grapes would readily dry out after a rainstorm and stave off the dreaded botrytis rot. This trait was recognized as a great hedge against inclement European weather. The grape has a reputation for producing dark wines with a robust flavor, along with plush body and balanced character.
2006 Bouchaine Estate Pinot Noir, Napa Valley-Carneros Our estate-grown Pinot Noir shows off depth and power, yet is balanced by grace and elegance. Winemaker Michael Richmond calls it, "a seductive wine with smoky overtones--definitely not a shrinking violet, and therefore we've saved it as essentially our reserve Pinot Noir bottling." Together with intense flavors of dark cherries, berries, toffee and spices, this vibrant, luscious wine is sure to please Pinot lovers as well as those more accustomed to structured, full-bodied wines.
