2012 Bouchaine Estate Pinot Meunier
This Pinot Meunier is one of our favorite varieties to produce. It shows bright cranberry and pomegranate red fruits that are complemented by the faintly conifer forest aroma. This wine further evolves into cinnamon and allspice, a signature flavor of Carneros. The dynamics of this wine are fascinating. We think of it as Bouchaine's most versatile wine - pair it with anything!
Blocks 9 and 10 sit on two sides of a swale in the heart of the Estate. It’s a cold location and they’re always the most frost-susceptible blocks on the entire property. They almost always ripen a few days behind the surrounding blocks (7 and 8 to the West and 11 to the East). 2012 was an abundant but big-berried vintage. The big berries lead naturally to a lower relation of skins to juice and give this wine a juicy freshness to the fruit character and somewhat more moderate color and weight. Pinot Meunier’s typical sweet red fruit and baking spice character are particularly lithe in the 2012.
